16mm Documentary Films on Folklore Research in the Kinki Region, 1933-1936.
These are film recordings of ritual music and dances in the Kinki region made by Naojiro Nishida et al., Professor of the Faculty of Letters, Kyoto Imperial University, with a research grant from the Hattori Hokokai Foundation, over a three-year period beginning in 1933. The films recorded by Keizo Shibusawa and members of his “Attic Museum” are well known as folklore video recordings in pre-World War II era; the videos in this collection are valuable materials that were recorded during the same period for the history of folklore studies.
